Organisation and planning of music video - Conversation with Colion, Pedal Power

We emailed pedal power to enquire about possibly using their equipment for our music video.

Dear Sir/Madam

We are four a-level students who are currently planning a music video project for our media course, we were so impressed by your exhibition at The Big Chill that we really wanted to incorporate a pedal power lighting element at the climax of our video.
Could you let us know if it would be possible to use your equiptment and what sort of charges you would make (bearing in mind we are students and do not have a large budget) our sixth form college is near Guildford.

Thankyou in advance for your consideration,

Laura, Imi, Fiona and Lillie

Hi !

better if you give me a call to discuss! I'm sure we could help......

thanks
colin

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the email, we have talked about the budget with our tutor but we think that we will only be able to offer £400, do you think you would be able to offer us a service within this budget?
James our tutor thought you might like to see the kind of videos our school produces, here is the link

Thank you again,
Laura

Hi Laura,

yes I'm sure that we could do something for that.

So can you tell me what you have in mind?

Thanks
Colin
Hi Colin,
Thankyou! that would be perfect,
Sorry i have taken so long to reply, i haven't been able to access my e-mail account.
For our music video project we would like to show video footage of the preparation and setting up of the pedal-powered lights in the tree. Rather than using the dresses you used at the Big Chill, we have decided that coloured lanterns would probably look more atmospheric and fit into the theme of the video better, do you think that would be possible? We also decided that some footage of the bands performance being run by the pedal power would also look very effective,
What are your idea's?
Thanks again
Laura

Hi Laura,

yeah we could do the lanterns.

Only thing is I don't have the ones that we used at the big chill in 2007 and 2008. However I just found some round paper ones that could be used, they look like this but are all white. We'd have to spray them or something for the shoot but they'll be perfect for a temporary installation. What do you think?

Set-up is quite time consuming and I'll need lots of help. Other points:
You'll need to find a tree or something that is easily accessible via ladder so that the lanterns can be hung from.
I need to know know many lanterns you want? (Assume for now one lantern per bike generator)
You'll need to arrange the bikes otherwise I'll need to hire a van which is more cost. Is this possible?
I need to know the distance of each bike from it's corresponding lantern position (just a rough estimate) to work out how much cable we'll need.
what date is the event?
Now with regard running the band's power from the bikes - yes this is more than possible, although we'll need a rough estimate of the total wattage of the equipment they'll be using on the day.

If you get chance please give me a quick call to discuss further.

Sorry its a bit complicated but that is the way it is. Believe it or not it took us 2 days solid to set up the dresses/bikes at the big chill. It is quite a bit of work although I expect we can make this simplier with a bit of planning.

and don't worry we'll make it work!

Thanks
Colin

one more thing,

if i sent you the paper lanterns, you could just paint them all different styles,
