What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Our media product does not present credits, the distributor or the production company at the end. This is for a deliberate reason to create the “home video” look to keep it as realistic as possible. Having all this information would have ruined the feel for the film and the home video look about it. If there was to be a distributor it would be a company like Film Four. “Film4” is a free digital television channel in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland, owned and operated by Channel 4, which screens films. It would distribute our film because it’s of a lower budget and not big enough to be taken on by a bigger distributor. As it is a low budget product the production company would be of a similar level for e.g. Warp. Warp Records is a pioneering independent English record label, founded in Sheffield in 1989, notable for discovering some of the most enduring artists in electronic music. As it is independent and runs on its own strings it’s more likely to distribute the film as the films of low budget like the company.

How did you attract/address your audience?

I attracted my audience using a variety of different ways. I choose a young, fresh, appealing cast that connected well with the camera therefore engaging with the target audience. The audience could relate to the characters due to the age and likability so made the media product a realistic story making the product more attractive and thrilling as people in our society now enjoy the thrill of realism. The daughter is off the age of our target audience and her parents are going through a divorce which in our society now is quite common. As I said the sense of realism and the occurrence of what happens in our story attracts the audience, its a real life situation showing that this could happen to anyone which excites and thrills the audience. We created a very realistic story line set in the real world/We use inviting conversations and an attractive however mysterious house which teases with the innocence of the family and the audience too. This also creates a greater thrill to the story and audience. We addressed the audience without insulting their intellectual ability by applying flashbacks. By using flashbacks it means that the audience have to use their minds to work out what is actually happening in the sequence rather than explaining it for them with the use of images easily and simply. This makes the film more thrilling and tense for the audience to watch as you are sometimes unable to work out accurately what the image is. The product has been addressed as well as possible to attract our audience the best we could and I think we have succeeded.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

Our film is targeted at male and female ages 16-24. Our ideal profile audience type would be an 18 year old boarding school male. This male would enjoy sport activities such as rugby and football and is good at socialising. At the weekends he enjoys going clubbing and meeting new people. He would enjoy all types of music including: Hip hop, RnB, Indie, alternative and would be open to listen to any other genres. Films he would enjoy watching would be action and comedy films such as: Saw, 28 days later, saving private Ryan, Disturbia, Fight club and The Butterfly effect. The male would get pleasure from watching Southpark, Family Guy, Skins, Scrubs, Friends and all sport channels as he is interested in rugby and football. This would be our ideal audience.
